How to find the best child care assistance

by Sarah Palmer

Child care assistance is just one of the forms of grants for single mothers which is our there.

To find the best child care assistance is a process that needs to be taken seriously as though one was looking for a job thus need to be done with the appropriate care that it deserves.

The following steps may help in finding the best child care assistance:

  1. Initiate the process early: It is not automatic that one will obviously get the services when they need them. This therefore means that the search for child care assistance needs to be started early as it may take sometime before getting the best.
  2. Contacting experts; it is important to get in touch with local experts in order to get facts and information about child care and give you options that are available in connection with the best child care institutions.  This should also answer questions in regard to licensing in that specific region, how to lodge complaints and if the family qualify for financial assistance for child care.
  3. Carry out interviews; this is done by personally visiting the child care centers that one deems are best so as to gather relevant information in regard to the needs and requirements. The information may include the following:
  • The size of the group; it is important to find out the size of the group as it were, the smaller the group the better the attention your child is going to get as opposed to populated child care centers where care and attention to the children may be overstretched.
  • Ask about adult to child ratio; this is the number of children under the care of one adult hence the fewer the number of children for each adult then the better the care that the child is going to receive. In most cases for each adult there should be no more than four children under their care.
  • Qualifications of caregivers; when looking for child care assistance, it is important to look for qualified care givers with degrees and proper training in child care. This will have a positive impact on the child as he/she will learn at the end of the day. Also it is important to ask whether the care givers undergo a regular training and workshops in order to improve on their skills.
  • Check on turnover of care givers; it is important to inquire how long care givers work before they are laid off for example.  This is because change of care givers always will have a negative impact on the child and the child may end up being confused. It is advisable to look for child care givers whose employees can stay with the child for at least a year before changing to somebody else.
  • Check for legal adherence; this may include for example accreditation.  This therefore means that the care giver/assistance centers have met the required standards which may be higher than the licensing standards.

4. Choice making; from the visits and interviews that were conducted, then a choice can be made   based on the facts and requirements.

5. Finally get involved with your caregiver whom you have chosen as you have now become partners with them.
