Pell Grants For Single Mothers

by Sarah Palmer

If you are a single mom, studying becomes very hard. This is due to the financial cost of the education as well as no one to help out with your family. In addition, it becomes harder to get a well-paying job due to the fierce competition especially if you do not have a proper education. Most top organizations require you to show your level of education on your resume when applying for a job. So, if you are unable to afford to get an education, you are placed at a significant disadvantage to other people.

Fortunately the government recognized this fact and therefore allocated funding to help people who cannot afford an education, pay for one. The Pell grant is one such example of this funding. These Pell grants for single mothers offer scholarships to all the deserving single moms so that they can pursue their education and earn themselves a decent and a secure job.

The key advantage of this Pell grant is that money you receive does not need to be repaid. So single moms can study stress-free, knowing that all the money they receive will not be incurring any interest and does not need to be repaid at any time. This puts those in need on a level playing field to other people who can otherwise afford an education.

Since this is essentially free money, there are eligibility requirements before you can receive it. Eligibility depends upon your financial situation, income level as well as your family situation.

To qualify for the Pell grant, you need to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid). You will need to apply for this each year that you receive the grant money. Included in your application needs to be personal identification documentation as well as proof of your financial situation. You can read more about how to apply for the FAFSA here —> preparing for the FAFSA in 3 easy steps.

You may also be eligible for the FSEOG (Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant). This is a grant assessed on your financial needs and eligibility is determined on a case by case basis.

Although these grants are difficult to get and the application procedure is lengthy, it is worth applying for. This is a fantastic grant and the money can be used to further your education and career prospects for you and your family.
