Scholarships for single mothers are out there – you just need to find them! Organizations understand the vicious cycle which many single mothers go through – that to earn more money, you need an education, but how can you pay for your education if you do not have any money.

Thankfully, you can apply for a scholarship and get money specifically to pay for your education. Scholarships are different to loans in that they do not need to be repaid, which is undoubtedly the best part of them! If you already have a bachelors degree or even if you do not, there are many scholarships out there to choose from, all with varying eligibility.

The U.S. Department of Education has a large database financial aid for students ranging from money from the government to private organizations.

Scholarships For Single Mothers

1. Jeanette Rankin Foundation Scholarship

To ensure that the money is going to those who really need it, applicants must be considered low-income and must show financial need. You must also be enrolled in an accredited program and be women, aged 35 or older.

2. Sunshine Lady Foundation Scholarship

To be eligible for the Sunshine Lady Foundation Scholarship, applicants must be female and survivors of domestic abuse. The amount of money you will receive as well as and number of recipients vary each year.

3. Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards program

One of the best scholarships for single mothers which awards $10,000 to women who need assistance with higher education costs. Unlike other scholarships, the money can be used for books, child care, transportation or any other expense that will help you reach your educational goal. Applications are only accepted between July 1st and Dec. 1st and must be submitted through your local area.

4. Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund

The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship offers an unnamed amount to one undergraduate single parent who must be an Arkansas resident.

5. Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation for Low-Income Women and Children

In 2010, the Patsy Takemoto  Mink Education Foundation will offer five women of up to $2000 each. This award to only for low-income women with children who are pursuing education or training.

To find more scholarships for single mothers, you can check go and talk to the financial aid office at your school for more specific scholarships which may be available.

Warning: Please, please be aware of many scholarship scams out there!! A good indicator if it is a scam is if you need to pay money to apply.
